Cloud File services provider Nasuni has added content intelligence and governance, high-performance file synchronization and edge acceleration technology to what it now names its Operational File Data Platform for the AI era. It also introduced its PSYCHIC framework to define the standard for AI-ready data.
The capabilities of its AI-era Operational File Data Platform largely stem from two acquisitions completed earlier this year. Nasuni purchased DryvIQ in August to bring AI-powered content intelligence and governance into its File Data Platform (FDP). Back in April, it acquired Resilio to add high-performance file synchronisation and edge acceleration to the FDP. At that time, the company stated it had evolved far beyond its original collaboration and cloud file services roots to become an unstructured data platform built for enterprise teams and AI. Its updated software can manage, protect, and activate unstructured data at scale via one single global namespace, enabling both human users and AI systems to work from identical up-to-date datasets.

CEO Sam King noted: “Many organisations have widely adopted LLMs, yet translating that usage into measurable business value remains challenging. Rising token costs, limited production-scale rollouts, and outdated data governance highlight a core truth: your competitive edge comes not from the model itself, but your proprietary data, business context and enterprise intelligence.”
She added Nasuni’s mission is “helping enterprises understand their data and securely leverage their own institutional knowledge. Today we deliver on that promise with capabilities built atop our proven file data platform architecture.”

These new, generally available features include:
---Content Intelligence and Governance: Powered by DryvIQ, Nasuni can interpret, manage and protect file data across over 40 repositories including Microsoft 365, Google Drive, Box, Amazon S3, and on-premises NAS. DryvIQ classifies content across 550 file formats and 75 languages, detects PII, PHI, and PCI data, and scans hundreds of terabytes daily. Enterprises can inventory assets, label valuable, risky, redundant, obsolete, or trivial (ROT) content, and deploy automated governance policies across their full data environment.
---Governed AI Access: AI Activate connects AI tools directly to enterprise file data using the open Model Context Protocol. Built on a metadata and content index, it enforces permissions before AI views any content. This allows third-party MCP-compatible AI platforms and agents to operate on live operational files instead of relying on separately prepared, static data copies.
---Enterprise Search: It delivers fully hosted, permission-aware full-text search across operational file environments, making enterprise knowledge discoverable for both people and AI agents. This feature will launch soon.
---High-Speed Edge Delivery: Resilio 6.0 extends the Nasuni platform to remote edge locations, using peer-to-peer distribution to transfer governed file data at up to 200 Gbps on commodity hardware. No VPN, dedicated infrastructure or caching appliances are required. Teams at construction sites, studios, field offices and survey vessels can access globally managed file data at local speeds. (McKim and Creed consolidated 27 file servers onto Nasuni; remote engineers reported a 50 percent productivity gain in early Resilio trials.)
Nasuni CPO Nick Burling
Chief Product Officer Nick Burling said: “A global namespace, immutable versioning, native permission enforcement, and customer-owned object storage help enterprises meet data sovereignty and residency rules without splitting environments into regional silos. Security teams also avoid approving new data pipelines every time the business adopts an AI tool. Existing permissions and controls automatically apply to human users as well as AI agents.”
Nasuni’s PSYCHIC framework, created to define AI-ready data, consists of these criteria:
---Proprietary: Can AI access your business’s unique data, knowledge and context?
---Secure: Can AI safely utilise unstructured data?
---Yours: Do you retain control over your data’s usage?
---Current: Does AI work with the most recent live data?
---Hybrid: Can AI be deployed alongside data wherever it resides?
---Indexed: Can AI locate relevant information quickly and efficiently?
---Continuous: Can AI access cumulative knowledge stored across years of files and projects?
If you are not psychic (Sorry. Couldn’t resist it.) you can learn about the PSYCHIC framework.
Comment
Cloud file service vendors including Box, Ctera, Egnyte, Nasuni and Panzura are all enabling customers to expose stored data to AI models and agents with their own content intelligence, governance and permission controls, with MCP as a shared foundational element. This capability has become a baseline requirement. AI models and agents are emerging as universal data consumers.
This trend may eventually drive consolidation among cloud file service-backed edge storage vendors, on-premises data centre storage suppliers and distributed data management providers. All three vendor groups face the same challenge: enabling AI models and agents to access the broadest possible distributed data landscape, while preserving their market relevance and avoiding excessive costs to reach data assets outside their native footprint.
